he Dermot Naughton Cup is in honour of Cork star Cathal Naughton’s father who was a great club man by all accounts and died suddenly some years ago. 

This was the 5th year of the tournament and the Naughton Family, including Cathal, who refereed some of the games, were there to present the cup. 

Kilconieron beat Raheny in the first game, Sixmilebridge in the second and Ballyhea in the third which ensured qualification for the final against Mount Sion (the defending champions). Mount Sion had beaten Clonoulty-Rossmore, Newtownshandrum and Mungret on their way to the final. 

The group games were 12 minutes a side and the final was 15 minutes a side so the lads were well tired by the end but they had a great day. The weather was beautiful and the tournament was very well organised. All of the players played a part and the experience has given them a great boost. 

There were bonfires organised in the parish for the returning bus and a nice crowd turned out at the pitch to welcome the victorious team home. It is planned to pass the cup from house to house for all the players to display proudly throughout the year. I’m sure it’s a day the young lads will remember forever.
