Conor Hayes - Legends Tour

September 27, 2012

The hugely popular GAA Museum Legends Tour Series draws to a close for 2012 as former Galway captain, Conor Hayes, leads a tour of Croke Park Stadium on the eve of the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Championship replay.

The annual series, which started in 2008, has been a huge hit with followers of both football and hurling, providing visitors with a unique ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour through the hands-on perspective of their hurling and Gaelic football heroes.

The All-Ireland Legends Tour with Conor Hayes takes place on Saturday 29th September at 2.30pm. This unique guided tour is a must for Galway hurling supporters in Dublin on the weekend of the All-Ireland final replay and the county’s attempt to bridge a gap of over 20 years in bringing the Liam MacCarthy to Galway.

Conor Hayes enjoyed a ten-year senior inter-county hurling career with Galway, winning three All-Ireland senior titles in 1980, 1987 and 1988. He was Galway captain when the team won back-to-back titles in 1987 & 1988. Three times the recipient of an All-Star Award, Conor also experienced All-Ireland success at under-21 level in 1978 and with his club, Kiltormer, in 1991. The 2012 Legends Tour Series got underway in July and this year alone has featured former hurling greats such as Joe Connolly, George O’Connor, Diarmuid O’Sulllivan and Jamesie O’Connor.

Hurling Legends who have participated in previous years include Ollie Canning, Jimmy Barry Murphy, Nicky English, Eddie Keher, Brian Whelahan, Anthony Daly and Babs Keating. All tours include a trip to the recently-refurbished GAA Museum, which is home to many exclusive exhibits, including the Sam Maguire and Liam MacCarthy Cups, as well as the new temporary exhibition ‘GAA - A Global Phenomenon’, which is now open, running until Spring 2013.
